Musing Monday #1

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by Should Be Reading.

This week's musing asks:
Do you listen to audiobooks? Why, or why not?

I personally have never listened to an audiobook before because I have just never thought of picking one up. I honestly don't know if I would even be able to pay attention to one. I'm able to concentrate on reading because it sucks me into the story, but when have to actually listen to something, my mind tends to wander. Plus, I like being able to imagine how the characters' voices sound in my head; with an audiobook I think the narrator would distract me too much. However, I've heard of some people listening to audiobooks while driving, and that sounds like a great idea. I think I may just have to get an audiobook so I can try it out sometime.

  1. I have the attention span of a gnat...audio books are hard for me to concentrate on. Listening to a book while driving sounds good in theory, but for someone like me, I can see it leading into trouble! Also, I agree that its more fun and engaging to imagine character voices in your imagination. If the audiobook reader has an irritating speaking voice or just doesn't mesh properly with the character's dialouge, its hard to take the material seriously.

Thanks for sharing your thought provoking response!

  2. I find that when I first start a new audio my attention is not on it and then something happens to catch my attention. So, what I end up doing is restarting that disc and then I'm more focused on the story. The best audios to listen are the Harry Potter books, the narrator voice is just lovely.
